Fifty years of gezelligheid.
Since 1968, our corner bar has been a sanctuary for cold local drafts, warm conversation, and the stories that shape Amsterdam.

The Night the Canal Froze
In the winter of 1979, the temperature plummeted, and the Oudezijds Achterburgwal became a highway of ice. Regulars skated right up to our front steps, their breath misting in the amber light of our windows.
Inside, we kept the hearth burning and the bitterballen hot. It was a night when strangers became lifelong companions, bound by the shared warmth of a wooden bar.
We didn't close the doors for three days. Nobody wanted to leave.
Jan, Bartender since 1974
